Comfort Food Sunday: Untested Faith (A Work in Progress)

Maybe it’s been too easy
Battles we thought were won
Prejudice we thought outgrown
Wrongs we thought undone.

Our faith has been untested
Our beliefs on shaky ground
Our shame exposed and glaring
Our nation’s unhealed wound.

Those that fought before us
Drove evil to the dark
It lingered there, awaiting
Hate’s hot malignant spark.

Too many of our brothers
Were left too far behind
Our hubris leaving scars
Our taunting, so unkind.

New fires rage around us
New fears to fan the flames
Our union risks division
And we’re the ones to blame.

It’s time to stand together
On shoulders strong and brave
Of those whose faith was tested
Their progress ours to save.
